Gartner CPQ Magic Quadrant

The Gartner CPQ Magic Quadrant is a vendor-evaluation report. It is a useful input to a shortlist. It is a poor substitute for a catalog, ERP, and operating-model review.

The Gartner Magic Quadrant for Configure, Price and Quote application suites plots vendors on completeness of vision and ability to execute. CPQ Consultant does not republish current quadrant placements. We use the report to see who Gartner is even discussing, then we test those vendors against your CRM, ERP, and product model.

What the report is

Gartner’s Magic Quadrant is a paid research document. Vendors land in Leaders, Challengers, Visionaries, or Niche Players based on Gartner’s criteria, not on whether they can configure your HVAC unit or your Salesforce price book. Get the current document from Gartner or a vendor who is licensed to share it.

How to get the current report

Gartner sells the document to clients. Some vendors offer a licensed reprint. We do not host Gartner graphics or a current Leaders list. If you need a shortlist that matches your CRM, ERP, and catalog, that is the consulting job after you have read the current report.

How we use it in a selection

The quadrant answers “who is in the conversation.” It does not answer “who should quote our configure-to-order catalog into SAP.” We still run a constraint-first shortlist: Salesforce-native, manufacturing, subscription billing, pricing science, or headless.

  • Use the report to avoid unknown vendors if procurement requires an analyst mention.
  • Do not eliminate a manufacturing specialist because it is not in the Leaders box.
  • Do not pick Salesforce or Oracle only because they often appear there.
  • Read Forrester and G2 as extra inputs on our analyst reports page.

What actually decides the buy

Integration to the CRM and ERP you already run. Catalog complexity. Who will administer the tool. Implementation partner availability. Those facts are not in a 2x2. Common questions

What is the Gartner CPQ Magic Quadrant?

An analyst report that evaluates CPQ vendors on vision and execution. It is Gartner’s framework, updated on Gartner’s schedule. It is not a ranked list of the best CPQ software for your plant or CRM.

Where can I see the current Gartner CPQ Magic Quadrant?

Gartner publishes the report to clients. Vendors who are licensed to redistribute it often offer a reprint. Placements move between report years, so a graphic on a third-party blog is usually out of date. After you have the current document, use our best CPQ software shortlist to match vendors to a constraint.

Should we only buy from the Leaders quadrant?

No. Manufacturing, MSP, and mid-market quoting often fit vendors that Gartner treats as specialists. A Leader that needs middleware to reach your ERP is not a win.
