Selling motion

CPQ Guided Selling

Guided selling is a question-and-constraint path that leads a seller or buyer to a valid configuration. It is not a chatbot bolted onto a broken catalog.

CPQ guided selling asks the seller or buyer a short sequence of questions, applies product rules, and returns a valid, priced configuration. Salesforce CPQ uses quote processes and product rules. Manufacturing engines such as Tacton and Epicor use constraint solvers and, when needed, 3D visualization. Use guided selling before you rebuild the entire catalog.

What guided selling is for

Reps who do not know the engineering constraints. Dealers quoting HVAC packages. Buyers configuring equipment on a portal. The engine should refuse illegal combinations instead of hoping training will stick.

Salesforce CPQ guided selling

Salesforce CPQ guided selling is usually a quote process plus product rules, features, and options. It works when the catalog is already honest. It fails when every exception is a hidden product. We implement the questions sales actually asks, not a 40-step wizard nobody finishes.

Manufacturing and visual guided selling

Configure-to-order products often need a solver, not a Salesforce option tree. Tacton, Epicor CPQ, and ServiceNow Logik.io are the usual engines when dimensional or 3D constraints matter. See CPQ for manufacturing and visual configurator services.

Try guided selling before a catalog rewrite

Most “we need a new CPQ” programs are actually “nobody can find a valid bundle.” A guided path on the current engine is cheaper than a platform swap.

Common questions

What is guided selling in CPQ?

A structured path of questions and constraints that produces a valid, priced configuration. The output is a quote, not a recommendation essay.

Does Salesforce CPQ support guided selling?

Yes, through quote processes, product rules, features, and options. It is not a standalone guided-selling product. Complex manufacturing solvers usually live on Tacton, Epicor, Oracle, or Logik.io.

When should we not use guided selling?

When the seller already knows the SKU and the only problem is price or approvals. A wizard on a three-SKU quote is friction.
